Tiverton is located in the centre of Devon, providing the perfect excuse to explore some of the counties finest countryside and historic visitor attractions.

Tiverton Castle

The busy Devon market town of Tiverton is situated in the mid-Devon countryside. The central location provides a convenient access point to explore coastal regions and nearby moors. The town has a rich heritage which can be discovered by visiting the number of historic buildings in the area.

There’s no shortage of interesting visitor attractions in and around Tiverton. The site of a Roman Auxiliary Fort is based nearby. As well as Tiverton Castle which is home to an impressive collection of military antiques.

The National Trust owned property, Knightshayes Court is two miles North of the town. The must-see Gothic Victorian house, built in 1869 is surrounded by impressive gardens. Bickleigh Castle is another historically significant building with based close to the town with exhibitions, gardens and shop.

The Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life contains an interesting variety of exhibits that have relevance to the social history of the town. In fact, the collection is the largest of its kind in the South-West of England. The town also has a charming craft centre which is a great showcase for a range of local creative talent.

One of the standout features of Tiverton is the Grand Western Canal which is located towards the outskirts of the town. Its original purpose was to provide a transportation route for limestone. These days it is appreciated for its beauty and as a thriving wildlife habitat for a range of species. A relaxing stroll beside the canal or gentle trip on one of the barges is a wonderful way to take in the scenery and enjoy this special area.
