Famous for its historical buildings and rich heritage, a trip to Tiverton will take you back to a simpler time. Located less than a 30 minute drive from us, we highly recommend a visit. Here, we tell you why.

About Tiverton

Tiverton is a town and civil parish in central Devon. A glance down the high street at the impressive 1600s architecture will transport you back in time. The slow pace of the market town allows you to forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We detail why we think a day out in Tiverton is a great idea whilst you stay with us!

At the core of Tiverton, the stunning Pannier Market building is the town’s central hub that connects the community with regular activities. As well as daily markets hosting around 2,500 people a day, the building is used for regular food events and special functions. The building’s market dates back to Saxon and Roman times – meaning there have been markets taking place for 1250+ years!

The High Street

Though the high street’s architecture is historically-set, the shops within are conversely trendy and modern.

You’ll find a range of chain stores like Clarks, Marks & Spencer, Dorothy Perkins and New Look in the town centre. Head over to Gold Street, and you’ll find a number of brilliant independent stores including Mademoiselle Mojo, Jo Amor Designs and Banbury’s Department Store.

Foodies will love Tiverton too! Whether you fancy a light snack or 3 course meal, you’ll find some amazing food and drink in the town centre. Find out more below.

Knightshayes Court

Knightshayes Court is a National Trust property that is popular among locals. Afforded by many as one of the finest gardens in South West England, Knightshayes has a wide range of rare trees and plants within the many intricate (and sometimes hidden) paths!

The last family members to live there before the house was handed to The National Trust in 1972, John and Joyce, were very good amateur gardeners, who received RHS Victoria medals for their brilliant work in horticulture.

The house was designed by the brilliant William Burges. Construction started in 1969, and thorough it’s lifetime, it hosted 3 generations of the Heathcoat Amory family until 1972.

Additionally, Knightshayes Court is home to the Stables café and brilliant views of the Devon countryside throughout 300 acres of woodland outside the main gardens.

If you are a keen gardener or appreciate classic architecture, we think you’ll love it!
